The biggest difference from the United States is the tax architecture. Costa Rica taxes only Costa Rica-source income — your U.S. salary, dividends, and rental income are not taxed locally. You will still file with the IRS (Americans always do), but the layering means most of our U.S. clients owe little or nothing extra to the Costa Rican treasury on their U.S. income.
